Soul's Sole purpose

 

When Pixar and Disney collaborates you know for sure that a great movie is on it's way. Soul came on Disney's online streaming platform during this world pandemic situation and did a pretty well buisness .It is one of its kind of movie. One may think it is for the kids because the animation is always related to kids but the topics Soul deal with are adulthood related.

 It's about Joe Gardener and his passion for jazz music. Joe has waited his entire life to get the gig and that one opportunity that could make his life change. He believes once that happens he will truly start living his life. Which happens when he gets that chance to perform with dorothy Williams an acclaimed jazz singer at her show but just before that, he dies. He reaches at the pathway to the great beyond aka afterlife where he realises that all his dreams came to an end before getting completed for once. He panicks and says ' I cannot die right now, not when i have truly started living' So Joe Gardner doesn't find joy in life when there's no jazz. It's jazz jazz and jazz. He is so occupied with his thoughts that he barely pays attention to others. For instance when 22 transfers into his body his conversation with his barber friend leads to something different than just jazz. Only when Joe Gardner gets to perform his gig. He realises that's it . Just like the people on subway to whom he said its just the same day in day out. Any job in the World is same. So is his gig with Dorothy Williams. The Spotify podcast had the director mention his conversation with a musician from nine inch nails band. " I used to think if i get to play in a stadium this big i could die as a happy man and when that day came, people left after the show , they had their own lives to carry out and i was left there alone, wondering was it worth the waiting?.

Soul has sole purpose of making us understand that FINDING YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE WILL GIVE YOU HAPPINESS is a hoax. The true salvation lies in little things of life. The daily things. Which we often called boring. When 22 got into JOE'S body he hated earth , the noises, the crowd made him cover his ears. But did you see him eating that pizza. I have never seen anyone so excited about a pizza slice except this one guy i know* ever. He was blown by the subway . The air coming up from the road. 22 loved the leaf as if it was the most precious thing on planet although it is.

So one of my friend told me about his theory about 22 and i was amazed too. All of 22's mentors were the greatest people to ever live, yet they couldn't convince him that live was worth it. All it took him was a day on earth to know how much he was missing. That is why experiences matter, you can read about amazing things, watch exclusive videos, but as long as you don't experience it yourself, you won't know the whole story..

The troupe where we sometimes spend our entire life dedicated to one thing may sometimes take us into the "the zone" as shown in the movie but it may also make us depressed and unaware of other things making us lost. Life is a blend of lots of colors it's not just black and white ,right or wrong. Do what you want to do at that moment. Look at for little things and the joy behind them. Don't look out for wants and needs. That one student JOE had who loved to play the trumpet . She came there to tell him she is quitting and she hates it but when she started playing it 22 was mesmerized and that girl said ' nevermind I'll still play it' because she loves it. Sometimes we may not like something we do at certain point or situation , it may also be person. But inside it is something that makes us happy . 

Soul serves its purpose right. And i loved how it was presented.
